London’s Crypt Gallery beneath St Pancras New Church will showcase an exhibition devoted to Birmingham’s legendary Que Club. ‘In The Que’ will display an array of artefacts including flyers, ticket stubs, films and personal clubber accounts, alongside photographs of club nights and headline acts. The event was curated by Jez Collins and opens on 1 December, running until 4 December.

The exhibition originally opened in Birmingham in April, displaying 10 photographs taken by Terence Donovan of the 1996 event ‘House of God’ out of a total of 65. The Crypt Gallery display is a collaboration with clothing brand AFFXWRKS, and celebrates the culture surrounding the music played at the club between its opening year of 1989 and closure in 2017.

Over the years the club welcomed some of the biggest names in music to its stage, including Massice Attack, house DJ Carl Cox, Surgeon, David Bowie, Andrew Weatherall, BBC Radio One’s Essential Mix event and The Bubble Club among many others. Daft Punk chose the club as the recording location for their live album in 1997. In April a documentary on the club’s history, ‘In The Que: Celebrating the Que Club’, was released on YouTube, tracing its journey throughout the years.

Described as a project that “shines a light on a hidden history of Birmingham’s music heritage and culture”, the show is expected to entice former club-goers and those wanting to learn more about the establishment.
