Junior Simba, a rising star in the Leeds music scene, has released his latest single, ‘Head Round’, through his very own record label, Simba Sounds. Simba’s previous releases include ‘Stick With Me (like you said you would)’ on Jaguar’s UTOPIA and ‘Channel Z’ with Kilimanjaro. ‘Channel Z’ has already become a popular hit on dance floors, despite being released months ago.
Despite maintaining his signature sound that is perfect for clubs, ‘Head Round’ explores a more introspective side of Simba. The song features an endearing topline and a thundering bass that is almost brassy in nature. The playful yet meaningful lyrics layered throughout the song make it stand out.
In a recent interview with Mixmag, Simba explained his approach to writing this song, stating, “With ‘Head Round’ I wanted to take a stripped back approach to my writing. A strong driving bass, a few percussion and drum elements, all complimented by the vocals that bring out emotion in me.”
Simba has had a successful year so far, with his music being regularly featured on BBC Radio 1 dance, a sell-out monthly party in Leeds, and a DJ set at Mixmag’s 40th birthday party at Outernet. ‘Head Round’ is available now from Simba’s label, and is well worth a listen for anyone looking for a unique and introspective take on club-focused music.
