North Wales: Four injured in dangerous dog attack

On Friday morning, North Wales Police responded to a report regarding a dangerous dog at an address on the Llŷn peninsula in Gwynedd. The attack left four people injured, two of them seriously, and two with minor injuries. A joint investigation between the police and the RSPCA has been launched to determine the breed of the dog. The animal has since been destroyed, and 37 dogs and several cats have been seized from the property.

Two of the individuals with serious injuries were airlifted to the hospital. Though the cause of the attack is yet to be determined, authorities have stated there is no longer a danger to the public. Police have maintained their presence in the area as investigations continue.

Councillor Gareth Williams said the attack occurred in Rhydlios and that the community is in shock. Williams expressed concern due to the proximity of a public footpath and nearby families. He stated his thoughts were with those affected and hoped for a swift recovery.

UK police maintain a record of dog attacks and work together with the RSPCA to protect both humans and animals from dangerous incidents. According to the Dogs Trust, there were four dog-related fatalities in the UK in 2019, and the Royal College of Surgeons reported that the number of dog bite injury cases more than doubled from 4,110 in 2015 to 8,014 in 2019
