Sicaria unveils debut EP via her own Club Confi:DANCE imprint, ‘Blood, Sweat & Self’

Club Confi:DANCE artist SICARIA has released her debut EP ‘Blood, Sweat & Self’ which comprises four self-exploratory tracks. The EP was inspired by the artist and photographer Cindy Sherman and her decades-long performative practice of self-photography under different guises. Through this EP, SICARIA blends various elements of her psyche, from her Moroccan heritage to experimental, delicate vocal chops with heavy basslines, touches of grime and ethereal soul in a genre-fluid motion set to a heated 140BPM tempo.

SICARIA is a spiritualist and has been consistent in channeling the spiritual realm, which is a practice that’s been consistent in the maternal side of her Moroccan family for generations. When touring the US last year, she picked up a new pack of oracle cards to add to her collection. She used these cards to do some personal readings on the future of her music career and consistently drew the ‘Cindy Sherman’ card. She just knew from then that she’d be working Sherman into her music in some way.

In keeping with Sherman’s conceptual photography in which she portrays herself in a variety of different roles and personas, SICARIA chose to create four different tracks portraying different personalities. The different emotions and themes in each track reflect each aspect of her personality. ‘Freak 2 Freak’ and ‘(Not So) Serious Ting’ portray her darker, heavier, and tougher side, while the softer melodic sounds in ‘Still Swingin’ and ‘Tout De Sweet’ reflect her softer side.

SICARIA’s ‘Blood, Sweat & Self’ is a rhythmic tapestry of sound with strong vocals and heavy basslines. It is available now on the Club Confi:DANCE imprint
