Former Home Secretary Suella Braverman has written a letter to the Prime Minister, accusing Chancellor Rishi Sunak of repeatedly failing to deliver on key policies. In the strongly worded letter, Braverman said Sunak had betrayed his promise to do “whatever it takes” to stop small boats crossing the Channel. She also accused him of failing “to rise to the challenge posed by the increasingly vicious antisemitism and extremism displayed on our streets”.

Braverman was sacked from her position as Home Secretary on Monday, due to her alleged role in stoking tensions ahead of pro-Palestinian marches in London. Days before her sacking, she claimed in an article for The Times that police had applied a “double standard” to protesters.

In the letter, Braverman told the Prime Minister that Sunak had “manifestly and repeatedly” failed to deliver on policy priorities. She also criticised his “magical thinking” and urged a change of course, saying that the current plan was “not working”.

Braverman added that she had suggested her own back-up plan but had received no response from the Prime Minister. She concluded by saying that she could “only surmise” that this was because he had “no appetite for doing what is necessary, and therefore no real intention of fulfilling your pledge to the British people
