Following a weekend marked by intense rainfall and strong gusts from Storm Boelo, conditions across the UK are now easing as the storm moves away. However, this respite is expected to be brief. A fresh deep low-pressure system is advancing from the Atlantic and will affect northwest regions of the UK on Monday and Tuesday, bringing further rain and windy weather. In response, the Met Office has issued yellow wind warnings covering much of Scotland, northern Northern Ireland, Wales, and western England.
Monday morning will see rain spreading rapidly from parts of southwest England, Wales, and Northern Ireland toward central, eastern, and northern England, as well as most areas of Scotland by lunchtime. Along certain coasts and hilly regions, mist and murky conditions are also expected. As the precipitation clears, drier weather will begin to develop in the southwest, with some areas experiencing bright or even sunny spells, notably in Wales and southwest England. Southerly winds will usher in warmer air, especially in southern areas where temperatures could reach 18 or 19°C.
Winds are set to strengthen throughout Monday, starting breezy and escalating to gusts between 30 and 40 mph, with coastal zones experiencing 50 mph gusts and isolated locations possibly reaching 65 mph. During Monday night and Tuesday, as the low-pressure system nears Northern Ireland and northwest Scotland, the wind intensities may peak between 70 and 85 mph in the Hebrides. Consequently, the yellow wind warnings remain in place from Monday evening through late Tuesday across these regions. The Met Office forecasts a low risk of severe disruptions but highlights potential travel challenges, power outages, structural damage, and flying debris, as well as a likelihood of some trees being uprooted.
Looking ahead to the middle of the week, high-pressure conditions are forecast to build near the UK, signaling an easing of unsettled weather. Showers will persist on Wednesday but should diminish by day’s end. Thursday morning’s light winds may bring mist and fog that could disrupt travel in parts of the country; however, these conditions are expected to clear, giving way to dry weather and sunshine. Although a weather front might introduce rain to western areas on Friday, the general trend points to high pressure reestablishing itself, with the majority of weather models indicating a drier and calmer period developing over the weekend into the following week
