Reform UK has taken the step of suspending one of its party activists after footage emerged, recorded by an undercover ITV News reporter, in which the individual reportedly claimed that being Muslim and British simultaneously is impossible. Additionally, the party is investigating two of its councillors who, according to the same footage, appeared to endorse the mass shooting of grooming gang members.
The emergence of these allegations comes from an undercover investigation by ITV News, which has raised significant concerns about Reform UK’s candidate vetting processes. In response, a party spokesperson informed the BBC that legal action is being pursued against ITV and the production company responsible for the documentary, which obtained the material through covert means. Reform UK also released a statement emphasizing that there is “no room for racism” within the party and confirmed it had launched inquiries into members whose behaviour was deemed clearly inappropriate.
The forthcoming ITV documentary, titled *Undercover: A Year in Reform*, features party activist Jason Powell, who reportedly stated, “You cannot be Muslim and British, it’s like oil and water.” Powell, who has sought to become a Reform parliamentary candidate, is also heard expressing views that migrants who enter the country illegally should be detained in “concentration camps” if they cannot be sent back to their origin countries. As a result, Reform UK has suspended Powell’s membership pending an ongoing internal investigation.
Two Reform councillors from the London borough of Hounslow are also under scrutiny. Councillor David Kerr is recorded advocating for the machine-gunning of thousands of grooming gang members, while his colleague, Councillor Adam Parkins, suggests that as prime minister, he would carry out executions on Sunday mornings in the Downing Street rose garden. Parkins defended his stance to the BBC, describing the advocacy for the death penalty against men who “systemically groomed and raped young girls” as “a perfectly legitimate opinion.” Kerr has yet to provide a comment. In light of the events, Reform UK has stated it has prioritized improvements to its vetting procedures. Meanwhile, ITV News’ broadcast of the undercover footage has stirred further controversy involving some party members using racist, violent, and sexist language. Reform MP Robert Jenrick acknowledged in an interview that all political parties have “bad apples” and praised Reform UK for taking swift action to remove or suspend those implicated in the footage
