Dad and son remain critical after masked men attack in Leicestershire village

A serious incident has left a father and his son hospitalized in critical condition following an attack at their residence, which police described as seemingly “completely unprovoked.” The disturbance occurred shortly before 00:30 BST on Thursday at a property on Station Road in Thurnby. According to Leicestershire Police, the man, aged in his 50s, and his 15-year-old son were stabbed multiple times by two masked assailants who forcibly entered the home.

During the attack, the man’s wife, who is in her 40s, sustained minor injuries to her hand and shoulder. Their three other children present in the house were unharmed. Law enforcement officers responded promptly, deploying armed units to secure the scene; however, the perpetrators had already fled by the time police arrived. The investigation is being led by the East Midlands Special Operations Unit (EMSOU), which is continuing to work over the weekend to determine the motive and track down those responsible.

Authorities remain on site conducting searches and gathering evidence to aid the inquiry. Detective Inspector Lorna Granville emphasized the severity of the incident, stating: “This was a violent attack against a family in their own home which appears to have been completely unprovoked.” She added, “Our investigation to understand what happened and why – and identify those behind such a horrific criminal act – is going to continue over the weekend.”

Granville also issued a direct appeal to the local community for assistance: “I’m making a direct appeal to people in Thurnby and the surrounding communities to come forward with any information if they haven’t already done so.” She urged anyone who may have witnessed suspicious activity or possesses dashcam, CCTV, or doorbell footage from the vicinity of Station Road and Somerby Road between 23:00 on Wednesday and the early hours of Thursday morning to contact the police, adding, “Anything you’re able to provide, no matter how insignificant you think it might be, could help us.” In support of the investigation, the police have established a dedicated public portal for submitting information relevant to the case
