A teenager has been formally charged following an assault involving multiple youths inside a shopping centre in Glasgow, which resulted in another teenager requiring hospital treatment. The incident took place at the St Enoch Centre on Friday afternoon, where video footage shared on social media captured the moment a young man using a crutch and wearing a medical boot was knocked to the floor and subjected to repeated punches and kicks.
During the altercation, another individual was pushed to the ground, but security personnel were able to intervene and help manage the situation. Police Scotland confirmed that a 19-year-old male sustained injuries and was transported to hospital. Following the investigation, a 17-year-old boy was arrested and has since been charged in connection with the attack. The assailants had fled the scene before police arrived, and the injured individual, who was bleeding from a head wound, received assistance initially from other shoppers and security staff present.
The St Enoch Centre lies within the Glasgow city centre dispersal zone, an area established in March to address crime and anti-social behaviour. Under these regulations, police officers have the authority to ask groups of two or more people to leave if their conduct is deemed to jeopardize the safety and welfare of others. Those asked to disperse can also face a temporary ban from returning to the zone for 24 hours. Notably, the powers of this dispersal zone were recently extended through to December, underscoring ongoing efforts to reduce disorder.
A spokesperson for Police Scotland provided further details regarding the case, stating: “A 17-year-old male has been arrested and charged following enquiries into a disturbance in the St Enoch Centre in Glasgow. The incident happened around 3.35pm on Friday, 2 October, 2026. He has been released on an undertaking and will appear in court at a later date.
