Alison Hammond has heart check-up in hospital after leaving TV's This Morning

Alison Hammond sought medical attention for a heart-related check-up after unexpectedly leaving ITV’s This Morning during the live broadcast on Friday. Despite her early departure, the 51-year-old presenter reassured her audience that she was “fine.” During the show, Hammond appeared to be in discomfort, clutching her chest as co-host Dermot O’Leary helped her off the set. O’Leary informed viewers that she was “feeling a little unwell” before the programme continued.

Later that day, Hammond shared a video from her hospital bed, explaining that she had experienced “a little bit of a palpitation” while on air but was undergoing tests and feeling okay. “I know you’re all worried about me,” she said candidly. “Honestly, I am fine. First of all, I’m getting my old ticker checked out.” She speculated that the episode might have been caused by a mild panic attack or something similar, and expressed hope that everything would turn out well.

The Birmingham-born presenter, who also co-hosts The Great British Bake Off, expressed gratitude to viewers for their supportive messages and apologized for leaving the show so abruptly. “I’m so sorry I left you,” she said. “I would never normally do that. I would never leave a TV show, so you know I wasn’t very well.” She went on to commend the medical staff for their care and humorously mentioned still wearing her make-up from the broadcast, showing she remained in good spirits despite the situation.

On the day of the incident, the ITV programme had started at 10:00 BST with Hammond and regular Friday co-host Dermot O’Leary presenting. Hammond exited the show around 11:30 during a segment on pets. O’Leary updated viewers after the break that she would not be returning for the remainder of the episode. Hammond first gained public attention as a contestant on Channel 4’s Big Brother and later appeared on shows including I’m A Celebrity and Strictly Come Dancing. She joined This Morning as a co-presenter in 2021 and was part of the team that received the National Television Award for Best Daytime Programme in 2022. In addition to her work on This Morning, she became a Bake Off co-host in 2023 and succeeded the late Paul O’Grady on For the Love of Dogs in 2024
