Ivan Toney denies Soho nightclub assault

England international striker Ivan Toney has entered a plea of not guilty in relation to an alleged assault that took place at a nightclub in central London. The 30-year-old footballer, originally from Northampton, faces accusations of headbutting and punching a man named Saber Da Silva during an incident on 6 December at a venue on Wardour Street in Soho.

During proceedings at Westminster Magistrates’ Court, Toney confirmed his identity and age before denying the charge of assault occasioning actual bodily harm. District Judge Briony Clarke indicated that the matter could be handled in the magistrates’ court; however, Toney has chosen to have the case heard at the Crown Court before a judge and jury. He has been released on unconditional bail and is scheduled to appear at Southwark Crown Court on 29 October.

Ivan Toney has represented England at the international level, earning 10 caps and being included in the squad that competed in the Euro 2024 final. His professional career began with Northampton Town, after which he went on to play for a number of clubs including Wigan Athletic and Peterborough United. In 2020, he transferred to Brentford before moving on to his current club, Al-Ahli, which competes in the Saudi Pro League
