Foster was permitted to travel back to the UK to attend his child’s funeral, with the stipulation that he return to Cyprus last week for the scheduled plea hearing. His attorney, Alexandros Alexandrou, informed the court he intends to request that the travel restrictions be removed, allowing Foster to remain in the UK with his wife and daughter until the forthcoming hearing.
During proceedings at Paphos District Court in July, it was reported that the boy had fallen from an open window while Foster was holding him around the waist and swinging him sideways. To avoid a prolonged trial and the emotional toll it would impose on his family, Foster chose to enter a guilty plea, according to Alexandrou.
After Tuesday’s hearing, Alexandrou told the Associated Press that enduring a lengthy trial would mean Foster would “again [be] a victim of this tragedy.” He emphasized that Foster’s primary concern is to reunite with his family as soon as possible. The maximum penalty for the charge is four years imprisonment, although Alexandrou noted that, in similar cases, courts have sometimes handed down fines or suspended sentences.
