According to sources familiar with the matter, Helen Jenner is expected to be appointed as the new leader of Reform Wales, succeeding Dan Thomas. Thomas stepped down from the position following his arrest on suspicion of assault, with several senior figures within the party reportedly supporting Jenner as the preferred successor.
Helen Jenner currently serves as a Member of the Senedd (MS) for Bangor Conwy Môn and holds the position of deputy leader for Reform in Wales. The party’s Senedd group is scheduled to meet on Thursday morning to determine whether a leadership vote will be necessary or if they can directly appoint someone to the role.
Dan Thomas was arrested over the past weekend on allegations related to assault and controlling or coercive behavior. Despite these charges, he denies any wrongdoing and has not been suspended by the party. Thomas continues to represent Reform as an MS for Casnewydd Islwyn. Jenner, meanwhile, has not yet made any public statements regarding her intentions to take on the leadership.
James Evans, Reform’s health spokesperson, revealed on Wednesday that he had majority support within the group but chose not to pursue the leadership after consulting with his family. If multiple candidates come forward, Reform MSs are expected to hold a secret ballot to decide the leader, though there will be no vote involving the wider party membership
