Later today, groups associated with South Coast Patriots are set to hold a demonstration in Portsmouth city centre. In response, the anti-racism organization Stand Up To Racism plans to organize a counter protest.
Hampshire Police have issued a warning that individuals wearing face coverings during the protests may be subject to arrest. The force intends to enforce powers granted under the Crime and Policing Act 2025, which are designed to balance the right to peaceful protest with measures to prevent violence. These powers will be in effect within a defined area marked by the police from 10:00 BST on Saturday until 10:00 BST on Sunday.
Similar regulations are being enforced by other police forces in England. Staffordshire Police have announced a ban on face coverings at a demonstration scheduled in Tamworth, where Britain First plans to stage a so-called March for Remigration. Likewise, Northumbria Police have implemented restrictions prohibiting face coverings during protests in Newcastle city centre.
Earlier incidents in Hampshire included clashes in Eastney, where several emergency vehicles, including police cars, coastguard, and Border Force vehicles, were damaged during disturbances that continued into the early hours of Monday. A few officers received treatment for injuries at the scene, though there were no serious injuries among those present. This unrest in Portsmouth followed a separate anti-migrant protest that took place at the Port of Dover the previous day
