Five men involved in a violent attack outside Bristol Airport, an event initially feared by onlookers to be an act of terror, have been sentenced to prison, police confirmed. The individuals—Vladamir Stan, aged 52; Able Marin, 21; Florin Stan, 28; Constantin Stan, 29; and Emanuel-Ronaldo Dumitru, 27—carried out the assault on February 21 by crashing into two men and then attacking them with bats.
At Bristol Crown Court on August 28, all five men admitted to charges of violent disorder. Collectively, their prison terms add up to nearly 17 years. Additionally, Vladamir Stan, Marin, and Florin Stan pleaded guilty to possessing offensive weapons. Constantin Stan, who also admitted to several shoplifting offences, received a four-year sentence. Vladamir Stan, Florin Stan, and Marin were each sentenced to three years and three months, while Dumitru was given three years and one month.
Detective Constable Charlotte Couch of Avon and Somerset Police addressed the public’s concern, saying, “We understand the immense fear this incident caused, with witnesses believing at the time this was an active act of terror.” Her colleague, Detective Constable Ryan Hurt, described the assault as a “serious incident that was targeted and planned” and emphasized that it occurred during a busy Saturday morning at the airport without regard for the safety of passing members of the public. The defendant and victims are known to each other, and authorities assure there is no ongoing wider threat.
The physical impact of the attack left one victim, aged 21, with cuts and bruises across his face and body, while the other victim, aged 37, suffered knife wounds. Det Con Hurt highlighted the broader consequences, noting the harm extended beyond physical injuries, affecting victims psychologically. One victim remains in physiotherapy, aiming to regain a normal daily routine. Judge Burgess noted the incident caused “serious fear and disruption” among road users and travelers, who initially mistook the attack for either a terrorist event or a carjacking.
