Authorities are currently searching for two women and a man who fled on foot following a fatal hit-and-run incident on the A8 highway near Edinburgh Airport. The crash involved four vehicles—a grey Mercedes A250, a black Renault Captur, a grey Skoda Karoq, and a grey Hyundai i30—and occurred between the Newbridge and Gogar roundabouts at approximately 9:25 a.m. on Tuesday.
Emergency responders rushed to the scene, where sadly, the driver of the Hyundai i30, a 58-year-old individual, was pronounced dead. In an effort to locate the three individuals who left before law enforcement arrived, police have deployed a helicopter and a dog unit to assist with the search. Additionally, four other people injured in the collision were taken to hospital but have since been discharged.
Police Inspector Thomas Mallinson expressed condolences, stating, “My thoughts are with the family of the person who died at this incredibly difficult time.” He emphasized the ongoing nature of the investigation and the importance of finding the three people who fled, adding, “Our inquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances of this crash, and it is vital we trace the three people who left the area before police arrived.”
The emergency response from the Scottish Ambulance Service included three ambulances, two special operations response teams, a paramedic response unit, and a critical care paramedic.
