Helen Pacey and her family had eagerly planned a journey on the Snowdon Mountain Railway, aiming to stand at the summit marker of Yr Wyddfa, also commonly called Snowdon. Unfortunately, after waiting in line for half an hour at the peak of Wales’ tallest mountain, Helen, who is 58 and from Hull, Yorkshire, was forced to turn back without reaching the summit. She explained, “I’ve had both my hips replaced, so there was no way I could have gone up the rocky side of it.” The crowd pushing ahead in the queue meant they ran out of time to fully enjoy the experience. Helen expressed her frustration, stating, “Because people were pushing in, we missed out. That is not fair.”
Throughout the summer, large numbers of visitors have tackled the climb, and delays of over an hour at the summit have been noted, sparking tensions between those waiting patiently and others who attempted to jump the queue. Helen, who visited on August 22nd with her husband, sister, and brother-in-law, described the scene as chaotic. “There were people just pushing and shoving and running past us and climbing up the rocks to get up,” she said. The congestion was so intense Helen was surprised no one was injured. Unfortunately, with only 30 minutes until their return train, the group could not reach the trig point, and Helen found the experience disheartening. She added,
