Culture Liverpool has revealed the first recipients of its community grants under the Home: A Celebration of Place initiative. This funding supports a diverse array of grassroots arts, heritage, and community-driven projects within various neighbourhoods throughout the city. The aim is to nurture local creativity and foster a deeper connection among residents by celebrating the unique identities and stories of Liverpool’s communities.
Earlier this year, the organisation put out a call for applications, offering grants ranging from £500 to £5,000. These grants are intended to back community celebrations, creative endeavours, and local festivals designed to unite people and highlight the distinct character of their neighbourhoods. All selected projects are scheduled for completion by the end of September 2026, providing opportunities for residents to engage actively with arts and culture on a local level.
Among the successful grant recipients are several noteworthy projects. The Granby Four Streets Community Land Trust in Princes Park will present *Home Truths*, a language and photography exhibition focusing on migrant voices. This project incorporates creative workshops where participants share their migration experiences and foster a sense of home through photography, film, and interviews. The Friends of Williamson’s Tunnels group, collaborating with Liverpool John Moores University, will facilitate workshops exploring local heritage through storytelling, mapping, drawing, and model-making, culminating in an exhibition and a children’s book.
Other funded projects include the Scouse Flower House in Clubmoor West, which will mark the transformation of a community meadow with a day of celebrations. Liverpool Olympia’s *Roll Up! Homegrown* invites families to explore their neighbourhood’s circus heritage and history through interactive experiences. Kitty’s Launderette in Everton North will expand its summer activities with creative workshops and film screenings in partnership with Two Up Two Down. Movema in Kensington plans a large-scale community performance titled *Taking Flight*, inspired by themes of belonging and home, featuring dance, music, storytelling, and an interactive sound installation. The Olivia Korbel Butterfly Foundation CIC will host *Liv Fest* in Dovecot Park, a day dedicated to community unity. Lastly, Walton Youth and Community Project will run a youth-led creative drama program called *Our Voice, Our Future: Walton – A Celebration of Home*, engaging young people to express their views on identity and community pride through theatre.
The Home: A Celebration of Place initiative will continue to roll out activities from summer 2026 through early 2027, culminating in a city-wide festival that celebrates the creativity and achievements emerging from Liverpool’s neighbourhoods.
