Men admit trying to tunnel into south London jewellery shop

During a police search of a nearby massage parlour, officers discovered a hole being dug through a shared wall leading into a jewellery store, alongside several bags filled with tools. This finding was part of a broader investigation carried out by the Metropolitan Police’s Flying Squad, which connected the suspects to multiple commercial break-ins targeting jewellers throughout London, spanning from May to July. The stolen items involved in these offences have been valued at over £700,000.

Authorities revealed that the group employed tunnelling methods to gain entry into the jewellery shops during the night, successfully evading various security measures. Further inquiries conducted via Interpol suggested that the suspects might be connected to a series of similar crimes across European countries.

Detective Superintendent Dan Mitchell commented on the situation, stating that the suspects “dug their own hole” by being apprehended in the act. He highlighted that their arrests did more than just prevent the current burglary; they were part of a larger investigative effort by the Flying Squad which dismantled an organised crime group responsible for multiple jewellery shop burglaries.

The three individuals involved are scheduled to be sentenced at Kingston Crown Court on 23 October
