John Swinney has come under scrutiny for spending more than £45,000 of public money on business-class flights for himself and two senior aides traveling to the World Cup. The first minister’s trip began with a flight to Boston on June 11 to attend Scotland’s opening match, followed by participation in trade discussions in Kentucky three days later.

Overall, the government’s spending on the trip to the US for Swinney, Todd, and their officials amounted to £98,442. Additionally, business-class travel for the first minister’s special adviser Colin McAllister was priced at £9,864
