More than 1,200 properties across various locations in Kent are currently facing issues with water supply, experiencing either no water or low pressure. These disruptions have been attributed to several factors impacting the South East Water (SEW) network.
In the Charing, Challock, and Molash areas, approximately 800 properties have been affected since Saturday. SEW has issued an apology to customers in these communities and assured that efforts are underway to reinstate the drinking water supply. In addition, around 400 homes in Benenden, Rolvenden, and nearby localities are dealing with low water pressure or complete outages. These problems have been linked to recent pipe bursts combined with increased demand during the recent hot weather.
Further complications have arisen in Blean, Canterbury, where a technical fault has stopped water pumping operations. SEW has apologized for the inconvenience and is actively working toward resolving this issue promptly. Another 200 properties in the Wraik Hill area of Whitstable lost full water supply overnight due to power interruptions, but the company anticipates that normal service will resume by Monday morning.
In the Herne Bay region, supplies that were interrupted on Sunday were restored overnight; however, new difficulties appeared on Monday morning. The source of the problem lies with the town’s drinking water storage tank, which remains at a critically low level. SEW emphasized their ongoing efforts to refill the tank, stating: “We are doing everything we can to try to recharge the levels in the storage tank that feeds the area to try and make sure we can restore supplies as soon as possible.
