The recent intense heat has significantly affected daily life, impacting everything from widespread wildfires and transportation disruptions to a rise in heat-related fatalities. For many people, the anticipated drop in temperature is a welcome relief.
This shift in weather is due to a cold front progressing southeastward on Friday and into the night, bringing cooler northwesterly winds and some scattered showers. As a result, the heatwave is beginning to subside across much of the region.
Although certain locations in southeast England may still reach high temperatures around 27 or 28 degrees Celsius on Saturday, the majority of areas will experience a notable temperature decrease, with readings 10-13 degrees Celsius lower than those recorded on Thursday. Across most of the UK, except in the southeast, daytime temperatures will generally range between 16 and 24 degrees Celsius.
These temperatures fall closer to what is typically expected in mid-August, which, following the unusually hot conditions seen earlier in the summer, will likely feel cooler by comparison.
