A man passed away in hospital several days after a suspected gas explosion occurred at a bungalow. The incident took place at 09:45 BST on Sunday at a property located on Cobb Hall Road in Newton Longville, a village close to Milton Keynes. The explosion caused the complete destruction of the home.
According to Thames Valley Police, the man, who was in his 60s, was initially taken to hospital for treatment of his injuries but sadly died on Thursday. Detective Inspector Philip Turner-Robson expressed his condolences, stating, “This is a tragic development and our thoughts are with the man’s family and friends at this extremely difficult time.”
The police, in collaboration with the Health and Safety Executive, are conducting a coronial investigation to determine the exact circumstances behind the explosion and the subsequent collapse of the building. Detective Inspector Turner-Robson confirmed that inquiries are ongoing as authorities work to fully understand what transpired.
Residents in the village recalled the explosion as sounding like “a bomb just dropped in the village.” The gas distribution company SGN reported that one of their engineers arrived within 16 minutes after receiving a call from a member of the public shortly after midnight on Sunday. A spokesperson for SGN said they have been informed by the Health and Safety Executive that their physical gas network is not under investigation and assured that it remains safe and secure. The company also mentioned that they are continuing to collaborate with the local authorities to support the community affected by the incident
