A man has been taken into custody on suspicion of attempted murder and dangerous driving after a vehicle struck three pedestrians following reports of a disturbance. The incident occurred on Stokes Croft in Bristol at approximately 06:30 BST, according to Avon and Somerset Police.
One of the individuals hit was transported to the hospital; however, their injuries are now thought to be less severe than initially presumed. The other two pedestrians involved did not sustain serious injuries. Meanwhile, the man believed to have been driving the car was treated for facial injuries after his arrest.
Police have closed Thomas Street, Hepburn Road, Stokes Croft, and City Road while they carry out their investigations. There is an increased police presence in the area as inquiries proceed. In addition to the injuries, the Best Off Licence located on Stokes Croft also suffered damage during the incident.
Superintendent Matt Ebbs of Bristol Police reassured the public by stating, “We would like to assure the public we do not believe there to be any wider threat.” He encouraged anyone with concerns to speak to officers present at the scene and appealed for anyone who may have captured relevant CCTV, dashcam, or mobile phone footage to come forward to aid the investigation
