An Afghan man suspected of killing a Scottish woman in Greece has appeared in an Athens court for the second time. Sharif Ahmadzai, 26, originally from Afghanistan, is charged with homicide with intent, robbery, and weapons offenses.
The victim, Elisabeth Ross, a 38-year-old aid worker, was found by a homeless individual in an abandoned building located in the Kypseli district of Athens on July 18. Ahmadzai’s involvement in her death has led to the serious charges against him.
Ahmadzai returned to the Athens court on Thursday morning, arriving in an unmarked grey vehicle. No photographs of him were taken during this appearance. The previous day, he was assigned a lawyer by the court and granted time to prepare his defense.
Initially arrested on charges relating to illegal possession of weapons, Ahmadzai now faces an additional homicide charge, which corresponds to a murder charge under Scottish law. Authorities also accuse him of stealing over €10,000 (£8,500) from Ross’s bank accounts using her bank cards.
