A large-scale search operation is currently underway after a 13-year-old boy encountered trouble while swimming off the coast of East Yorkshire. Authorities received the emergency call in Hornsea at around 6:00 pm BST. Various rescue teams, including Hornsea Inshore Rescue, HM Coastguard, and Humberside Police, are actively involved in the ongoing search, with additional support from the RNLI’s Bridlington all-weather lifeboat.
Chief Superintendent Phil Booker emphasized the urgency of the situation, stating: “Our priority now is to find the boy, and members of the public can expect to see specialist Police Search Advisors, along with our Marine Unit and drone pilots, who have also been deployed to conduct an extensive search and rescue operation to locate him.” He also urged the public to steer clear of the area to allow emergency personnel to operate effectively and cautioned against speculation about the incident’s details.
The search is concentrated near the South Promenade of Hornsea. HM Coastguard confirmed that resources from Bridlington, Hornsea, and Withernsea are all contributing, with aerial support from both a Coastguard helicopter and fixed-wing aircraft. The visual scene is described as somber by the BBC’s Phillip Norton, who reported that emergency services personnel are spread along the seawall, with onlookers watching anxiously from the shore. A lifeboat remains visible about a mile offshore, while the helicopter continues its careful sweep of the coastline and waters.
Authorities have requested anyone who may have information that could assist in the search to contact Humberside Police promptly. The operation remains active as all involved continue efforts to locate the boy and bring him to safety
