Temporary road closures will be implemented on several sections of Queens Drive to facilitate vital highway maintenance work. These measures are necessary to carry out preventative treatments and update road markings along the route safely and effectively.
The affected stretches of Queens Drive include the northbound lanes from Heywood Road to East Prescot Road, and from Alder Road to Mill Lane. In addition, both directions between Townsend Avenue and Utting Avenue, as well as between Stanley Park Avenue North and Walton Hall Avenue, will be impacted by these closures. The scheduled dates for the work are Monday 3 August, Monday 10 August, and from Tuesday 11 August through to Friday 14 August.
To ensure the work proceeds efficiently, full carriageway access is required, which means closures must be in place. The preventative surface dressing treatment, designed to protect and extend the lifespan of the pavement, will occur during daytime hours on 3 and 10 August due to the nature of the materials used. Conversely, the road marking updates from 11 to 14 August will take place overnight to reduce disruption to traffic on this important route.
Nearby residents are being reassured that efforts will be made to limit disturbances, including turning off equipment when idle, and maintaining pedestrian access wherever possible. Drivers are advised to follow diversion signs or consider alternate routes throughout the closure periods. It is also important to note that excess loose aggregate will remain on the surface after treatment, which is a normal part of the process. This material will be cleared with suction sweepers within 48 hours of the work finishing and then again within a week.
