A woman aged 55 has been formally charged with violating an anonymity order protecting the victims connected to Jeffrey Donaldson, the former DUP leader who has been convicted of serious sexual offenses. Authorities reported her arrest took place on Tuesday in the Ballynahinch region. The charge pertains specifically to her breach of a permanent restriction that prohibits revealing the identities of victims involved in such cases.
The individual is set to appear in Downpatrick Magistrates’ Court on the 24th of August to face these charges. Under the law, victims of sexual crimes are granted lifelong anonymity to shield their identities unless they choose to relinquish this right voluntarily. This legal protection is a cornerstone in safeguarding the privacy and dignity of survivors.
Jeffrey Donaldson’s criminal convictions were handed down in June, encompassing 18 counts of sexual abuse, including one rape charge. These offenses were perpetrated against two women during their childhood. Donaldson served as a Member of Parliament from 1997 until 2024 and faced a judge who indicated that his sentence would be substantially severe.
