While on his way to the studio for a scheduled meeting, a photographer noticed a fire on the horizon and soon realised it was burning at the farm where his studio was located. Observing the flames at around 150 metres from his front door, he quickly decided to cancel the meeting, concerned about the direction of the wind.
As the photographer began removing his more valuable equipment from the building, he was interrupted by a sudden explosion. The blast originated from a unit storing fertiliser, causing the shockwave to hit him and force him into a door. He managed to reach his van, dropping an item he had returned for, which he believes may have played a role in saving his life.
After the explosion, the photographer saw that the roof of his studio had completely collapsed. He drove away to a secure place and, overwhelmed by the events, pulled over. Although he started shaking from the shock, paramedics soon arrived to check his condition, giving him reassurance. Remarkably, aside from some ear discomfort caused by the blast’s pressure, he escaped without serious injuries.
Despite the traumatic experience, he was able to keep a wedding appointment slated for the following Saturday, crediting his assistant, James Musselwhite, who travelled all the way from Portsmouth to support him.
