A 25-year-old law student has appeared in court after being charged in connection with a bomb found in a car in County Monaghan, Republic of Ireland. The individual, identified as Isobella Perrie Sullivan from Abbeylands Park in Clane, County Kildare, faces charges related to the possession of explosives.
The incident occurred when gardaí, the Irish police force, intercepted the vehicle near Carrickmacross on Wednesday. This operation was part of a broader effort to curb dissident republican activities. Authorities suspected that the bomb was intended to be transported across the border into Northern Ireland.
During a special session of Trim District Court in County Meath held on Friday evening, a member of the Garda Special Detective Unit provided details about the discovery. The officer explained that a search of the car revealed the bomb inside a bag located in the back of the vehicle. The device included a timing power unit, a detonator, and what was believed to be Semtex, a type of plastic explosive. Additionally, the Irish Defence Forces were called to the scene and confirmed that the bomb was viable.
Representing Perrie Sullivan, a defense solicitor informed the court that she resides with her father in County Kildare and is pursuing a career as a barrister. The judge indicated that bail would be granted if she could secure a €15,000 independent surety. Conditions for bail include surrendering her passport, following a curfew, providing her phone number to the gardaí, and reporting daily to a garda station in County Kildare.
