Leicestershire Police have initiated a murder investigation following the fatal stabbing of a man in Leicester. The incident occurred around 22:45 BST on Wednesday when a police officer patrolling near London Road, close to Saxby Street, was approached by a man suffering from severe injuries to his chest and stomach.
Emergency medical personnel attended the scene, and the injured man, described as being in his twenties, was transported to a hospital. Despite medical efforts, he died during the early hours of Thursday. Authorities have since indicated that the stabbing likely took place at De Montfort Place, an area located behind several properties facing London Road.
No suspects have been detained as of now. Officers are asking anyone who was in the vicinity between 22:45 and 23:00 to come forward with any information or dashcam footage that might assist with the investigation. A crime scene has been secured, and forensic teams are conducting a thorough examination at the location.
Detective Inspector Lorna Granville, representing the East Midlands Special Operations Unit Major Crime Team, commented on the case: “Our investigation is in the very early stages, and we are currently working to establish the full circumstances and identify those who may have been involved. We believe the injured man may have been stabbed minutes before he was able to stop an officer who was driving in the area. We have a number of enquiries underway but would ask anyone who was in that area of London Road last night, between 22:45 and 23:00, to contact police.
