Liverpool Football Club has taken significant action against illegal ticket selling, issuing over 400 lifetime bans in response to the police seizure of assets valued at more than £1.2 million connected to ticket touting. This move came as part of a coordinated effort with Merseyside Police targeting organized networks involved in the unlawful resale of tickets.
A joint operation aimed at disrupting the laundering of profits generated from illicit ticket sales was carried out, complementing the club’s ongoing efforts to combat touting both online and at the stadium. Following this crackdown, Liverpool handed out 432 lifetime bans, alongside 115 indefinite suspensions to those involved.
Detective Chief Inspector Nick Suffield praised the collaboration, stating, “This is a fantastic example of partnership working between ourselves and Liverpool Football Club for the good of the fans and the general public. We will always take action to protect genuine fans who fall victim to touts when all they are trying to do is simply purchase tickets to support their team.” The funds recovered through asset seizures were divided between Merseyside Police and the Home Office.
This latest development builds on Liverpool’s previous efforts to eliminate ticket fraud. Last year, the club revealed it had closed down 145,000 ticket accounts over a two-year period. During the 2025-26 season alone, nearly 700,000 ticket registrations were scrutinized, resulting in the blocking or cancellation of 67,663 suspected fake accounts and ongoing investigations into more than 120,000 others. In addition, 3,847 tickets thought to be fraudulently purchased were revoked and re-released to genuine fans as general admission.
