An inquest has revealed that an 18-year-old girl who passed away at a music festival likely suffered a cardiac arrest. Lucy Ellen Halpin died on July 11 after attending the Tonnau festival near Llanfaethlu on Anglesey. During the inquest opening, coroner Kate Robertson indicated that there is reason to believe the death was unnatural, although a post-mortem examination was still underway and the exact cause had not yet been confirmed.
Emergency responders were called to the Carreglwyd estate in Llanfaethlu at 1:45 AM BST on July 11 after reports of a medical emergency. Halpin, originally from Bangor, Gwynedd, was transported to the hospital but sadly passed away at 3:18 AM. Following the incident, the festival organizers announced the cancellation of the Tonnau festival to allow authorities to conduct their investigation without disturbance.
At the start of the inquest, the coroner expressed her sincere condolences to Lucy’s family. Meanwhile, Breeze Hill Bar, Eatery and Hotel—where Lucy had been employed—posted a heartfelt tribute to her on their Facebook page. They described her as “exceptionally good at looking after our customers, many of whom will miss her lots,” and emphasized that she was more than just an employee, referring to her as part of their extended family.
Friends and colleagues remembered Lucy as someone who “lit up every room she walked into and put a smile on everyone’s face without fail.” The fundraiser set up to support her family with funeral expenses highlighted how deeply Lucy would be missed and affirmed that she would be “carried in all our lives with love.” The pub staff also described the establishment as being “a pub full of broken hearts” following her passing
