With a history spanning three decades, Core Cities UK has driven important policy changes. It has been instrumental in initiatives such as City Deals, the establishment of Combined Authority Mayors in England, fiscal devolution, and the introduction of the overnight visitor levy. The group is recognized for its advocacy on devolution and decentralization and is well regarded for its research collaborations with organizations like the OECD and the RSA, which provide key data on city productivity.
Reflecting on his new role, Cllr Robinson expressed his honour in becoming chair during a pivotal moment for city devolution in the UK. He highlighted the significance of working alongside the new Prime Minister, Andy Burnham, noting their shared values and prior collaboration when Burnham served as the Greater Manchester Mayor.
