Kirandeep Kaur, a 24-year-old mother, tragically lost her life in an attack at her home in Hayes, west London. She was fatally stabbed while lying in bed alongside her husband and infant child. Originally from the Majha region of Punjab in India, Kirandeep had recently moved to the UK to seek better opportunities and support her family financially.
Her younger sister, Gursharan, spoke emotionally through a translator, expressing the deep bond they shared. “She was my world,” Gursharan said. “She video calls me and my mum. What are we going to do without her?” The family originates from Tarn Taran, a district near Amritsar in Punjab, where they reside with their parents and siblings. Gursharan, 21, explained that Kirandeep came to London in September 2024 to study at Buckinghamshire New University, successfully completed her studies, and later worked in a grocery store. She described her sister as exceptional and hardworking: “She was the top of her class here in India when she was studying. She loved us all very much and was always putting our family first.”
The devastating loss has left Kirandeep’s family deeply shaken. Gursharan revealed that they learned about the tragedy from someone in their village, and they are still trying to comprehend what happened. She shared the pain her family is enduring, saying, “I am not coping well, I cannot handle this news. My parents are devastated.” Kirandeep leaves behind her husband, their baby, and three siblings. Especially heartbroken is her youngest sister, who recalled her sister’s supportive role during her studies and underscored how much Kirandeep meant to the entire family.
A man named Daniel Sean James, aged 46, has been charged with Kirandeep Kaur’s murder. Police arrested him after the attack, during which he allegedly jumped out of a window and sustained double fractures to his ankles. James appeared via videolink at the Old Bailey and faces additional charges including attempted murder and possession of a blade. The court has scheduled a plea hearing for October 1, and James remains in custody.
