Review case of Warrington woman shot by father in Texas, says MP

A Member of Parliament has urged the government to apply pressure on Texas officials to reopen the investigation into the death of a British woman who was fatally shot by her father in the United States. Lucy Harrison, aged 23 from Warrington, Cheshire, was alone with her father, Kris Harrison, at his home in Prosper, near Dallas, when she was shot in the chest on January 10, 2025.

Although no criminal charges have been filed in the US, the senior coroner for Cheshire, Jacqueline Devonish, concluded during an inquest that Kris Harrison’s actions constituted unlawful killing due to gross negligence manslaughter. This finding has prompted calls from Labour MP Sarah Hall, who represents Warrington South, for the UK government to encourage US authorities to revisit the case.

The Texas police treated Lucy’s death as a potential manslaughter case, but a grand jury in Collin County ultimately chose not to indict Kris Harrison. During the inquest held in Cheshire in February, it was revealed that Harrison had been drinking on the day of the incident and that he allegedly took Lucy into a room to show her his firearm following an argument related to then-US President Donald Trump.
