A 28-year-old man has been taken into custody in South Yorkshire on suspicion of murdering Ann Widdecombe, according to police. Devon and Cornwall police confirmed that the suspect, identified as a white British national, is currently held for questioning.
Ann Widdecombe, known for her previous role as a Conservative minister and now serving as a justice spokesperson for Reform UK, was discovered with serious injuries at her home in Haytor, Devon. The incident was reported at 11:40 BST on Thursday, though authorities believe the attack occurred nearly a day earlier. Prior to this arrest, a 26-year-old man was detained on suspicion of murder but was released on Saturday.
The recent arrest was executed at an address in South Yorkshire, which is roughly 270 miles (430 kilometers) away from Widdecombe’s residence. In a statement, police noted that the operation was supported by Counter Terrorism Policing North East and South Yorkshire Police, but stressed that there is currently no indication that the case is linked to terrorism. Devon and Cornwall Police remain the lead force investigating the incident.
