Watch: Historic Bayeux Tapestry arrives at British Museum

The British Museum in London is now hosting the Bayeux Tapestry, marking its first exhibition in the United Kingdom since its creation close to a millennium ago. This remarkable historical piece, stretching 70 metres in length, has made a rare journey across the English Channel from France to be displayed.

To ensure the tapestry’s preservation, the organisers took extensive precautions during its transport. Special arrangements were made to protect the fragile embroidery throughout the entire delivery process, highlighting the importance of maintaining its condition.

Katie Razzall of the BBC provided live coverage from outside the museum, capturing the moment the tapestry was brought in under the cover of darkness. The timing was deliberately chosen to minimise risks and ensure a smooth transition into the exhibition space.

This exhibition offers visitors in the UK an extraordinary chance to see an iconic artefact that has rarely left France, allowing closer appreciation of this significant piece of medieval history
