The news of his win arrived at the end of a hectic workweek, catching him off guard as he was simply looking forward to unwinding with a pint of Guinness at the pub.
Reflecting on the moment he received the life-changing call, Roper admitted, “I wasn’t sure I hadn’t just dreamt the whole thing, it felt so surreal I couldn’t believe it myself.” He described the new house as “quite the upgrade” from his current bungalow. Looking to the future, Roper spoke about how the win has transformed his outlook. “This win has changed everything for us. I don’t know what we’ll do long-term yet, but we’ll definitely come and enjoy it and host our friends and family,” he said. With newfound options at his disposal, he even mentioned the possibility of early retirement. Originally from Lancashire, Roper began his working life running a milk round at the age of 21, which he managed for a decade before pursuing mechanical engineering studies. He has spent the last 14 years in engineering sales.
