Have your say on the future of Liverpool’s Central Station area

Liverpool City Council has opened a consultation inviting local residents, businesses, and other stakeholders to provide their input on the future redevelopment of the Central Station area. This engagement is part of a bold regeneration initiative aimed at transforming the zone into a dynamic gateway to the city centre.

An online platform has been introduced to consolidate details related to the emerging Spatial Regeneration Framework (SRF). This framework outlines a vision for how Central Station and its surrounding neighborhood might evolve, focusing on creating a more accessible, lively, and well-connected destination. The intention is to unlock new opportunities for investment, stimulate growth, and enhance the environment for those who live, work, and travel through the area.

The Liverpool Central project is progressing through a phased funding strategy that combines public sector investment with the potential to attract significant backing from private investors. Support for the scheme includes funding from the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority and national government recognition through its role as a pilot under the reformed Green Book process. This positions the project for a possible multi-billion-pound transformation. At its core, the project aims to address capacity challenges at the hub of the local rail network while driving wider regeneration efforts across the city and region.

Designed with accessibility in mind, the engagement website works well on mobile devices, allowing participants to explore plans, contribute to shaping long-term ambitions, and share their feedback conveniently. The consultation is set to close on 9 August, and the responses collected will inform the project’s next development phases. Councillor Nick Small, Cabinet Member for Growth and Economy, emphasized the importance of making the proposals easy to understand and urged people with an interest in the area to review the plans and participate. Additionally, Steve Rotheram, Mayor of the Liverpool City Region, highlighted the significance of Liverpool Central station as the busiest underground station outside London and described the project as not just about transportation but also about creating new homes, business spaces, and a world-class welcome for the city. He encouraged active local involvement to help shape the future of this vital part of Liverpool
