Police have begun inquiries following a complaint regarding the financial activities of Yes Scotland, the organization that campaigned for Scottish independence during the 2014 referendum. According to a report by The Sunday Mail, there are allegations that more than £1.5 million of income remains unaccounted for.
The complaint was reportedly lodged by David Henry, who previously raised concerns about the Scottish National Party’s finances. These earlier concerns contributed to the Operation Branchform investigation, which ultimately resulted in the conviction of former SNP chief executive Peter Murrell.
Yes Scotland Ltd, established by former SNP leader and First Minister Alex Salmond to lead the independence campaign, has not operated since the referendum year. Dormant accounts published last year revealed a zero balance for the company. The SNP has emphasized that Yes Scotland Ltd functioned as a completely separate entity from the party.
David Henry pointed out to The Sunday Mail that the campaign group’s accounts showed a zero balance from 2016 onward, despite an earlier record indicating £1.5 million was received but now appears to be missing. A spokesperson for Police Scotland confirmed receipt of the complaint and stated that investigations are currently underway
