Lyra McKee murder trial: Three men found not guilty of murder

Three individuals charged with the murder of journalist Lyra McKee in Northern Ireland, an incident that occurred over seven years ago, have been acquitted. Lyra McKee, a 29-year-old writer, was fatally shot while observing unrest near police vehicles in the Creggan area of Londonderry in April 2019.

The killing was claimed by the New IRA, a dissident republican paramilitary organization. The accused men – Paul McIntyre, Peter Cavanagh, and Jordan Devine – faced allegations that they accompanied a lone gunman to the location from which the fatal shots were fired. Prosecutors alleged that they provided encouragement or assistance to the shooter on that night.

However, the defense argued that much of the prosecution’s case rested on conjecture rather than solid evidence. They maintained that the accusations were not sufficiently supported to prove the defendants’ involvement beyond reasonable doubt.
