Body of Brody Leach found in River Severn in Shrewsbury

Witnesses reported that he entered the water wearing jeans but no T-shirt just after 4:00 a.m. BST. According to West Mercia Police, he got into trouble while in the water, and his death is not being treated as suspicious.

Authorities have confirmed that Brody Leach’s body has been formally identified by his family, who have also been informed as the next of kin. The police have requested that the family’s privacy be respected during this difficult time. Following the incident, parts of Quarry Park, Porthill Bridge, and Victoria Avenue in Shrewsbury were cordoned off as West Mercia Search and Rescue teams assisted with the search operations.

The cordoned-off riverside area has since been reopened to the public, though police patrols will remain increased throughout Saturday to provide reassurance to the local community. This incident marks the latest water-related fatality during a stretch of unusually hot weather this summer.

On Friday, a man died at a beach in Essex, and earlier in the week, a 50-year-old man was pronounced dead at Aberavon beach in Wales after encountering difficulties while swimming. Additionally, a previous heatwave in May resulted in multiple water deaths, including that of a teenage girl in Warwickshire
