Murder investigation after teenager reported missing in Blaina

Authorities have initiated a murder inquiry following the discovery of a body after the disappearance of a 14-year-old girl. The body was found in the Duffryn Park area of Blaina, located in Blaenau Gwent, around 22:10 BST on Monday.

Gwent Police confirmed that formal identification has not yet been completed, but the family of Lilly, who had been reported missing prior to this discovery, has been notified. The police have maintained a continuous presence in the area as they carry out further investigations.

Detective Chief Inspector Steven Thomas, who is leading the investigation, acknowledged the distress and concern this situation may cause within the local community. He stated, “We understand that this will cause distress and concern amongst our communities.”

He also mentioned that officers remain on-site and are available to speak with members of the public. “We have a large police presence in the area at this time as enquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances of the death. Our officers are here and available for you to speak to. We encourage anyone with information to please speak with us or you can contact us on the usual channels,” DCI Thomas added
