Fans of the hit BBC sitcom *Gavin and Stacey* have acquired a unique piece of television history after purchasing the house famously featured as Uncle Bryn’s residence in the show. Jaxx Nelson and Tom Bodfish, a couple from Banbury, secured the three-bedroom terraced home on Trinity Street in Barry, South Wales, for £210,000. This property has been synonymous with Rob Brydon’s quirky character since the series began airing in 2007.
Before deciding to buy the house, Nelson and Bodfish revisited the beloved series, which rekindled their enthusiasm just as the property was listed for sale earlier this year. Nelson remarked on the timing, calling it “kind of serendipitous” that the opportunity arose when it did. Upon viewing the house, they described a surreal moment: “Oh my god, we’re in Uncle Bryn’s house, this is mad.” They recognized the locations of memorable scenes, reflecting on the show’s significance to them.
Throughout the original three-series run of *Gavin and Stacey* and its subsequent specials, the house was the setting for several iconic moments. Notably, it was the place where Bryn humorously “surfed the world wide web” while directing Gavin from Barry to Essex during one of the initial episodes. The house was also a backdrop for scenes featuring Bryn entertaining Gavin’s friends with mini burgers and a game of Subbuteo, before reluctantly joining a night out in Cardiff.
For Bodfish, the completion of the purchase and receiving the keys was a “surreal” experience. He mentioned the unusual challenge of adjusting to frequent visitors snapping photos outside their windows. Already familiar with the *Gavin and Stacey* tour scene in Barry, including the involvement of Dave’s Coaches, the couple intends to transform the home into a holiday rental. They hope to offer devoted fans an immersive experience, designing the space with Uncle Bryn-themed touches and hidden references for visitors to discover. However, they have one request for guests: “don’t mention the fishing trip.”
