Ashley Cain, a former professional footballer and current presenter on BBC Three, is facing accusations over the use of overtly sexist and misogynistic language in a series of historic social media posts. The claims highlight numerous abusive and sexualized remarks directed at women on the platform X, formerly known as Twitter.
The reality television personality, who hosts the documentary series *Ashley Cain: Into the Danger Zone*, has since had his X account removed. BBC News has reached out to Cain for a response to the allegations. A spokesperson for the BBC emphasized the broadcaster’s commitment to maintaining the highest behavioral standards among its presenters and collaborators, stating that the corporation takes such matters seriously. However, they noted that no further comments would be made at this time as the situation is under review.
It emerged that the BBC was previously unaware of the problematic posts, prompting the organization to request that its independent production partners review all relevant social media background checks related to Cain’s engagement. Among the inflammatory remarks attributed to Cain were derogatory terms such as “sluts” and “psychos,” along with inappropriate jokes about violence against women. One notable incident dates back to 2014, when Cain responded to what he perceived as a homophobic tweet by telling a female user to “go and choke on a [expletive] you slut.” Some of the offensive remarks reportedly coincided with his viewing of the ITV reality show *Love Island*, where they targeted female contestants.
Despite these historic posts, Cain has publicly expressed views on respect, stating in a previous panel discussion, “I believe in respect and respect is mutual. If you are a lady, I respect you. But if you don’t respect yourself, how can you expect me to respect you?” When questioned about how he would respond if a man disrespected his sister, Cain said he would “like to think” his sister was raised to behave differently from his own sexual partners. Cain’s career has transitioned from playing for Championship club Coventry City FC to appearances on reality shows such as *Ex on the Beach* and the MTV competition *The Challenge*. He has also hosted the podcast *Fierce Minds Kind Hearts*, interviewing celebrities about how unpredictable life events shaped them.
Currently, Cain’s BBC documentary series focuses on traveling to some of the most dangerous regions worldwide, where he engages with young men living on society’s margins. A second series has been filmed earlier this year but has not yet been scheduled for release. According to *The Guardian*, BBC executives have praised Cain’s exceptional ability to connect with younger audiences, describing him as emblematic of the values of BBC Three. Additionally, Cain reached the semi-final of *Celebrity MasterChef* in 2025 and maintains a significant following on Instagram, with 2.1 million followers
