A rising UK rapper has expressed profound gratitude towards Linkin Park’s Mike Shinoda, crediting him for “changing my life” following his public praise of one of her freestyle performances. Morgan Da Savage gained widespread attention after her rap went viral on Steeze Factory, an independent music platform curated by DJ and producer Toddla T. The recognition from Shinoda came during an interview at Download Festival when he was asked which artists he would collaborate with for a potential new version of Collision Course, the mash-up album Linkin Park created with Jay-Z in 2004.
Morgan Da Savage described the experience as “surreal,” noting that she grew up listening to Linkin Park. The recent spotlight has also led to the announcement that her song “Innit” will be released next week. Shinoda shared with the BBC how refreshing he found her rap, promptly showing it to his bandmates. He remarked, “She was going crazy. Whatever’s happening over here [in the UK] is cool, it’s fresh, it’s got motion.”
Upon learning about Shinoda’s shoutout through a social media message, Da Savage revealed she was moved to tears. “Linkin Park have gone on the FYP and they see me,” she said. “It’s unbelievable, I’m just so grateful to him to even say my name. I was like ‘no way, he knows my name’. He could have said anybody and he’s gone Morgan Da Savage. It just shows like what a real person he is even to do that for me. It’s changed my life.”
Shinoda initially came across Da Savage’s performance in a cypher shared on Steeze Factory’s Instagram page, a project established by former BBC Radio 1 and 1Xtra DJ Toddla T, who aims to showcase UK talent. The platform has featured well-known acts such as Aitch, Window Kid, and Roll Deep alongside emerging artists. Morgan expressed appreciation for this initiative, stating, “It’s just what the scene needs right now. It’s not just famous artists that have blown [up], it’s all underground artists that are actually getting known from it.” She also praised DJs like AG and Mak10 for creating street sets that help artists gain recognition, emphasizing how important such platforms are for newcomers trying to break into the scene
