Bank View School is proudly acknowledging the remarkable accomplishments of two of its cherished community members, who have recently been honoured with distinguished national awards for their exceptional dedication to education and their support for individuals with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).
In January, Governor Bob Davies was bestowed with the Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) for his outstanding service to children and adults with SEND. Likewise, Vice Principal Claire Pattison received a Silver Award at the Pearson National Teaching Awards, celebrating her long-standing commitment to education.
With over 25 years of experience as a governor at two special schools, Mr Davies has made a significant difference not only within the school but also in the wider community. His leadership and volunteering efforts at the ‘Thursday Club’ have offered essential social opportunities and support for adults with SEND, improving lives through dedication and compassion.
Claire Pattison, honoured with the Silver Award in the Lifetime Achievement category, received her accolade at a school assembly on 17 June from Sean Catford, Pearson’s National Director of Sales. She is now a candidate for the Gold Award, which will be announced during the national awards ceremony in London in November. Her 36-year career reflects a deep commitment to her students, families, and colleagues, and she has been influential in shaping the school community through her leadership and passionate support.
The awards for both Mr Davies and Ms Pattison highlight their exceptional leadership, dedication, and commitment to the SEND community. Staff, governors, families, and partners at Bank View School have expressed great pride in seeing their contributions recognised on such a prestigious platform.
Cllr Joanne Kennedy, Cabinet Member for Employment, Educational Attainment and Skills, praised both individuals: “I’m delighted to see both Bob Davies and Claire Pattison recognised at a national level for their outstanding contributions to Bank View School and the wider SEND community. These honours are richly deserved and reflect not only their individual achievements, but also the strong values and commitment to inclusion that define Bank View School. They are a credit to Liverpool, and we are incredibly proud of them.”
The Headteacher also paid tribute to the recipients’ profound influence on the school community, stating, “We are absolutely delighted to see both Bob and Claire recognised at a national level for their outstanding contributions. Their commitment, compassion and leadership truly embody the values we uphold at Bank View. Bob’s unwavering dedication to supporting children and adults with SEND over many years has made a profound and lasting difference, both within our school and across the wider community. His selfless service and passion for inclusion continue to inspire everyone who works with him. Claire’s achievement is equally inspiring. Her exceptional career, passion for inclusive education and tireless support for our students, families and staff have helped shape the positive, nurturing environment we are so proud of today. She is not only a highly respected leader, but also a role model to colleagues and a champion for every young person in our care.”
In their own words, Bob Davies expressed his gratitude: “I am deeply honoured to receive this award. It has been a privilege to work alongside so many dedicated colleagues, families, and members of the community over the years. Supporting children and adults with SEND is something I feel incredibly passionate about, and I have always believed in the importance of creating opportunities for everyone to feel valued, included, and able to thrive. This recognition reflects the collective efforts of many people, and I am grateful to have played a small part in that.”
Similarly, Claire Pattison shared her feelings on the award: “I am incredibly honoured to receive this award. It has been a privilege to work at Bank View School for so many years alongside such dedicated colleagues and to support so many inspiring young people and their families. Everything we achieve is a team effort, and I share this recognition with the whole school community. I remain as passionate as ever about ensuring every student feels supported, valued and able to reach their full potential.”
