World Cup 2026: Stolen England training equipment recovered

England has successfully retrieved most of their training equipment that had been stolen shortly before their arrival in Kansas City on Saturday. The items were taken after vehicles carrying the gear to their base at Swope Soccer Village were broken into, according to confirmed sources.

The team, led by Thomas Tuchel, was scheduled to arrive in Kansas City on Saturday afternoon, with all the necessary equipment expected to be set up prior to their arrival. Among the stolen items was footwear, although none of the elite boots or any gear critical for match play were missing. Local police, collaborating closely with the Football Association, responded to the incident on Friday night.

Two individuals have reportedly been arrested in connection with the theft. A spokesperson for the Kansas Police commented while the investigation was still underway: “We are investigating a possible theft of equipment from a team vehicle that arrived in Kansas City with items missing this evening. The investigation is ongoing.”

The incident took place just as England was beginning preparations for their World Cup opening match against Croatia, scheduled for Wednesday at 21:00 BST. Former England defender Phil Jagielka explained the importance of the stolen boots: “We have plenty of pairs of boots throughout the season, but for the tournament a lot of them will have them personalised. A lot of them may have their own special insoles. Then you could choose whether to have the flag, your initials, your kids’ [names], nicknames… All this would have been done months in advance.” England will hold their first full training session on Sunday
