A 17-year-old girl is currently receiving hospital treatment after suffering a stab wound to the back of her neck. The incident took place on Wood Street in Brierfield, near Nelson, prompting an immediate response from Lancashire Police.
Armed officers were dispatched to the location shortly after 15:06 BST when reports of the stabbing were received. Following their arrival, authorities arrested a 30-year-old man on suspicion of attempted murder. Despite the severity of the attack, police believe that the girl’s injuries are not life-threatening.
In response to the incident, a spokesperson for Lancashire Police acknowledged the likely concern it would cause within the community. They assured residents that additional patrols would be deployed in the area throughout the evening in order to provide reassurance and maintain public safety.
